Ayedaade local government which came into existence through the federal military government’s pronouncement of May 3rd 1989 was an amalgam of the old Egbedore local government, first created in 1962 but later merged with Irewole local government in the local government reforms of 1976 which accorded recognition to only 24 local government in the then Oyo state of Nigeria. The division by chief Bola Ige sought to bring the local government closer to the people to enhance rapid development of the rural area.
Irewole Local Government again came under the hammer and was split into four, under the new arrangement which brought the total number of Local Government administrations in the then OYO State to 53. This formation again came under the knock of the military administration that came into power in December 1983, which reverted the Local Government administration in the state to its pre 1981 structure.
It was bounded in the North by EDE SOUTH Local Government, on the West by IREWOLE Local Government, IFE SOUTH Local Government on the South-East and IFE NORTH Local Government. The principal towns are GBONGAN, ODEOMU AND ORILE-OWU. THE Local Government IS predominantly an homogeneous society comprising mainly the Yoruba’s. However, the cosmopolitan nature of its towns, allows for the convergence of the people from different background in the country settle in the area. The religion of the people in the area mainly ISLAM and CHRISTIAN RELIGION while a percentage of the people are traditional Religion Worshippers.
The main occupation of the people in people in AYEDAADE Local Government is mainly AGRICULTURE a large percentage of the people in the area engaged themselves in various farming activities ranging from plant to livestock activities. Some of the Cash and Food Crops planted in the area are COCOA, KOLA-NUT, PALM PRODUCE and MAIZE, YAM, CASSAVA, VEGETABLE, E.T.C, respectively, live stock projects such as TURKEY, RABBIT, SHEEP, GOATS, as well as Poultry and Fishery are not left out in the effect of the people to provide food for mankind.
On the traditional setting, the OBA’s are the traditional Ruler of the principal town while the BAALE’s are the rulers in the villages. THE TRADITIONAL TITLE OF THE OBA’s ARE AS FOLLOW:-THE OLUFI OF GBONGAN, THE ALAYEGUN OF ODEOMU, THE OLOWU OF ORILE-OWU, THE OLOGI OF OOGI. (President of traditional council for 2008). These Oba’s constitute the traditional council of AYEDAADE Local Government, the presidency (i.e. Headship of the traditional council) is by rotation.
Other essential features in the Local Government which is worthy of mentioning is the educational institution is the area. Presently there are sixty six primary school in Ayedaade Local Government and fifteen public secondary school. There is also one co-operative college of the ministry of commerce and co-operative located at ODEOMU and there two proposed UNIVERSITY (K.I.C.C proposed university located at ODEOMU and proposed BETHEL-CITY university located at GBONGAN) another institution we have is ASANUSIYYAH COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (ASSCOED). In the area of security the people of Ayedaade Local Government are known for peace and they are law abiding citizens of the country. Notwithstanding there exist police station in the principal towns of the Local Government to forestall breakdown of law and order. There is one Magistrate court in Gbongan to bring justice to the people.
Ayedaade Local Government is one of Local Government area of Osun State, which was carved out of the old OYO state by the FEDERAL Government in 1991.
Political, AYEDAADE Local Government has Eleven Wards which Gbongan and its environs has Five Wards, ODEOMU and its environs has Three Wards and ORILE_OWU and its environs also has Three Wards. See table below with list of political Wards with polling units of the Local Government
